Job summary

City of Farmington is seeking a Parks Maintenance Worker IV–Mechanic at Pinon Hills Golf Course to maintain mechanical equipment and support park operations.

You will work under the Golf Course Superintendent and manage preventive maintenance, diagnose and repair engines, pumps, hydraulics, and related systems, and may supervise junior staff. A strong background in small engines, welding and safety compliance is required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school diploma or GED equivalent plus some specialized training in mechanics, maintenance management, or a closely related field.
• Three (3) years of related experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Thorough knowledge of small engine mechanics; considerable knowledge of gas and diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, fire pumps and valves, generators, irrigation pumps and welding, price trends and grades or quality of materials and equipment.
• Working knowledge of green and turf maintenance.
• Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities.
• Ability to maintain preventive maintenance programs, policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Performs semi-skilled, skilled, and administrative work in maintaining the mechanical equipment of the department.
• Works under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and Golf Course General Manager.
• May supervise Parks Maintenance Worker I, Parks Maintenance Worker II and Seasonal Maintenance Workers.
• Using excellent customer service skills establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.
• Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City.
• Carries out and evaluates preventive maintenance schedules for all mechanical equipment, either personally, or through outside vendors.
• Operates a variety of diagnostic instruments and a variety of hand, electric, and air-driven tools.
• Tests, services and repairs mechanical equipment.
• Inspects, adjusts and replaces necessary units and related parts in the performance of repair and maintenance work.
• Repairs brake, engine, electrical, fuel, hydraulic, transmission, ignition, air, exhaust, axle assemblies and related systems. Including sharpening and grinding reels for reel mowers.
• Repairs and maintains pump stations and golf carts for both golf courses.
• Cuts and welds metal and performs body repair, touch up and related work.
• Changes and repairs tires and tubes on equipment.
• Evaluates status of mechanical equipment, and performs or schedules needed repairs.
• Conducts various analyses and inspections of mechanical systems to determine the most cost-effective means of maintenance, repair or replacement.
• Requisitions equipment, parts, and supplies used for mechanical system maintenance.
• Provides emergency field assistance to disabled equipment as needed and appropriate.
• Maintains records, prepares reports and other specialized maintenance records of equipment and mechanical equipment.
• Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.
