Job summary

City of University Park seeks a Parks Maintenance Technician III to maintain parks, courts, fountains, and open spaces. Responsibilities include landscape/hardscape upkeep, irrigation systems, lighting, pool pumps, and park amenities, with on-site work across weather conditions.

The role requires independent work, adherence to schedules, and occasional on-call shifts. CDL within one year, and TCEQ irrigation/licensing are required; Backflow tester license preferred. Evening/weekend work possible.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of safe equipment operation.
• Advanced knowledge of irrigation system inspections.
• Advanced knowledge maintaining valves, wiring, controllers, sprinkler heads, rotors, drip systems, lateral lines, mainlines.
• Must obtain Class A or Class B CDL within one year of hire.
• Must hold a current TCEQ Irrigation Technician or Landscape Irrigator license.
• Preferred: TCEQ Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester license.

Responsibilities

• Performs inspections, maintenance, and cleaning of park features, including landscape and hardscape installations.
• Maintains irrigation systems for health, vitality, and aesthetic quality of landscapes in public spaces.
• Performs routine maintenance and repairs on irrigation systems and reports issues.
• Assists with tree maintenance, pruning, planting, and removals.
• Assists with emergency response work, such as storm cleanup and debris removal.
• Inspects park facilities for damage and maintains park drinking fountains.
• Programs and manages smart irrigation controllers.
• Trains, leads, and coordinates support staff on irrigation projects.
• Maintains daily logs and updates project documentation.
