Job summary

CACI is seeking a Senior Paralegal to support the USAO mission in Detroit, MI. The role involves litigation support, discovery prep, and complex document handling for high-profile cases.

You will work under supervision on a range of tasks from case prep to courtroom assistance, with opportunities to grow in eDiscovery and obtain Relativity/ACEDS certifications. DOJ MBI eligibility is required.

Qualifications

  • Requires paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study
  • At least 2 years of litigation paralegal experience, including 1 year in automated litigation support
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state court systems and legal research resources
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with eDiscovery tools and resources (Relativity, Excel, etc.)
  • DOJ MBI must be obtainable; US citizenship required

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and summarize materials for attorneys in discovery and motions
  • Summarize depositions and transcripts; maintain case files
  • Conduct moderately complex legal research and draft memoranda and correspondence
  • Index and track document discovery and exhibits for depositions and trial
  • Assist attorneys in courtroom and review documents for relevance and privilege

The Opportunity:

CACI is looking for talented Senior Paralegal professionals to support the US Attorney's Office (USAO) mission.

Positions like this are critical and are very involved with high-profile important cases. Paralegal duties focus upon litigation support as we prepare for trial in the coming months. The assignments evolve and we would like to be able to add complex responsibilities for a capable candidate.

Responsibilities:
  • Works under the direction of a Supervisory Paralegal or a Project Supervisor.
  • Work products are reviewed prior to submission; however, often develops these products with minimal direct supervision other than written guidelines.
  • Compiles, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs and other legal documents; summarizes depositions and other transcripts; maintains case files; performs moderately complex legal research; synopsizes transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use; reviews case related materials and, for example, identifies potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation; writes preliminary drafts of legal memoranda and correspondence; indexes, tracks and controls document discovery (including documents produced and received in discovery); indexes and tracks exhibits and other materials at depositions and at trial.
  • Prepares exhibit cross-references.
  • Assists attorneys in courtroom.
  • Reviews documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines and criteria.
  • Other examples of the types of work to be performed include compilation of documents for FOIA, production requests, Congressional inquiries, etc.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • Requires paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study, or an equivalent level of legal training or experience; or an equivalent level of education may be substituted.
  • At least 2 years of litigation paralegal experience, including 1 year of experience in automated litigation support.
  • Sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw. Hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems, e.g., Relativity, Excel, JEFS/Box.com, Word, Zoom, Teams, Power Point, and social media tools
  • Hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure. Advanced skills with Excel.
  • Professional, can-do, customer-service attitude.
  • DOJ MBI must be obtainable (US citizenship required)

Pay Range:

Minimum Required Hourly Wage: $31.00

This posting is for a position covered by the Service Contract Labor Standards (SCA). The pay and benefits provided for this position will meet or exceed the minimum required amounts detailed in the wage determination issued by the Department of Labor and made applicable to this position, as incorporated into CACI’s government contract for the work location.
