SENIOR PARALEGAL – Southern Company Gas
The purpose of this position is to support the Legal Department in areas such as litigation, internal investigations, contracts, governmental filings, legal research, database management, and related tasks. The role involves coordinating or managing individual projects.
This position follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring employees to be in the office four (4) days per week.
Job Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Functional Expertise:
- Assist attorneys with managing pre-litigation and litigation matters.
- Process incoming subpoenas, gather responsive information, and prepare submissions.
- Coordinate and conduct internal investigations and discovery responses.
- Prepare non-disclosure agreements, municipal franchise ordinances, and other agreements under attorney supervision.
- Manage legal holds using company-approved software under attorney supervision.
- Process and pay invoices for outside legal services, adhering to departmental guidelines.
- Perform legal research and summarize findings.
- Provide various legal support tasks, including check requests, vendor forms, IT access, and shipping labels.
- Perform other duties relevant to a Senior Paralegal role.
Business Acumen:
- Understand procedures for court and regulatory filings and coordinate information gathering with internal departments.
- Utilize Thomson Reuters Legal Tracker billing system and follow billing guidelines.
- Conduct legal research effectively.
Engagement:
- Communicate with outside legal counsel regarding litigation and document gathering.
- Coordinate with local courts on filings.
- Engage with internal departments on contract processing.
Driving Results:
- Maintain Thomson Reuters Legal Tracker billing system.
- Handle submission of court and regulatory filings.
Qualifications
Education, Certifications/Licenses:
- Required: Associate’s or BA/BS degree in legal, business, economics, or equivalent experience.
- Preferred: Paralegal certification.
Related Work Experience:
- At least 5 years of experience in a law firm or corporate legal department.
