Job summary

Boston Scientific is seeking a Sr. Packaging Engineer to lead packaging engineering activities and collaborate with global sustaining teams on new processes, materials, and equipment. The role focuses on driving sustaining initiatives, product quality, and operational efficiency within a regulated environment.

Hybrid work requires in-office presence at least three days per week, with travel up to 10%. The candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 7+ years of Packaging R&D

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering with at least 7 years of Packaging R&D experience.
• Minimum of 3 years working in medical device, pharmaceutical or similarly regulated industry.
• Strong technical knowledge of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, risk management, design controls, and product lifecycle management within a regulated quality system.
• Understanding of ISO 11607, relevant ASTM and ISTA standards and quality system controls (e.g. user needs, design inputs/outputs, verification/validation).
• Critical-thinking and problem-solving skills; travel up to 10% globally.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a trusted resource to provide technical leadership and consultation to cross-functional teams and external partners; cultivate partnerships with suppliers, testing labs, customers, and stakeholders.
• Lead packaging engineering activities to support sustaining and continuous improvement initiatives including cost reduction, manufacturing transfers, supplier/product changes; ensure compliance with design controls and regulatory requirements.
• Define technical objectives to lead and support cross-functional projects; manage risk documentation and communicate project results via reports and presentations.
• Facilitate qualification and testing activities (transportation, sterilization, aging, package integrity) to develop, validate, and implement packaging solutions that meet industry standards.
• Analyze complex packaging, manufacturing, and field performance issues to identify root causes; apply engineering principles to implement corrective actions.
