JOB TITLE: SENIOR PARKS MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

DEPARTMENT: PARKS & RECREATION

FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT

FULL TIME: YES, ON CALL: YES

JOB SUMMARY: Under direct supervision of the Parks and Recreation Superintendent, responsible for the overall maintenance and repair of all utility systems of all facilities within the Parks and Recreation Department, Library, Airport, playground equipment, swimming pools and other City owned facilities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain proper water chemistry for City Pool.
  • Maintain Park and recreational facilities include gymnasium, tennis courts, athletic fields, hiking trails, playground equipment, and swimming pools.
  • Perform semi-skilled and skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and related activities of electrical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, painting, welding and swimming pools.
  • Make repairs to city facilities as needed.
  • Assist Parks crew with general maintenance of grounds including mowing, trimming and weed maintenance duties.
  • Working with other city departments as assistance on projects is needed.
  • Estimate time, materials and equipment required for jobs assigned; requisition materials as needed.
  • Operate a variety of equipment including trucks, front-end loader, backhoe, ditch witch, air compressor, jackhammer, fork lift and a variety of hand and power tools.
  • In addition to climbing, bending and stooping; lift 25 to 100 pounds on a frequent basis, lift in excess of 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Pick up trash and debris from the park grounds and empty refuse containers.
  • Some weekend work and on-call work required.
  • Maintain appropriate uniform appearance and personal hygiene.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for the care and appearance of assigned equipment.
  • Research project costs and assists with material purchases.
  • Performs other duties as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSE:

High School Diploma or equivalent (GED), a valid Texas Drivers License and a good driving record. Certified Pool Operator (CPO)

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:

Two years of increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of electrical, plumbing, heating, and air conditioning systems. Knowledge of chemicals and electrical systems for swimming pools. Ability to read and understand schematics and to know and understand the occupational hazards of this type of work and be able to work safely. Skills in the operation of tools to repair and refurbish existing equipment. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Must possess public relation skills.

MINIMUM STARTING SALARY$19.84Hour
