Job summary

Mesa Associates, Inc. is seeking a Protection & Control Designer with 8+ years of experience to join our team. The successful candidate will prepare and review P&C design packages for substations ranging from 12kV to 500kV, using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, and will ensure adherence to client standards.

Ideal candidates will lead design activities, collaborate with multi-discipline teams, and maintain strong client communications while delivering accurate drawings and BOMs.

Qualifications

• Must have 8+ years of design experience in protection & control systems.
• Experience designing protection & control relays, metering, CTs/PTs, transformers, AC/DC power, and battery controls.
• Proficient with creating One Lines, AC/DC Schematics, Panel Layouts, Wiring/Connections, and BOMs.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation is required.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with design team members to complete assignments.
• Develop and check AC/DC schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and BOMs.
• Lead and guide design team members on projects.
• Coordinate with multi-discipline departments and manage multiple projects.
• Perform P&C design for substations from 12kV to 500kV.
• Apply client substation design standards to work.

Mesa seeks a Protection & Control Designer with 8 years of design related experience that will join our team and prepare and review P&C design packages.

Ideal candidate has at least 8 years of experience designing protection & control systems for high/medium/low voltage substations. Candidates with instrumentation & process controls experience will also be considered for this position. Candidates must possess knowledge and skillsets associated with designing systems that utilize protection & control relays, metering, instrument transformers (CTs/PTs), power transformers, AC auxiliary power, as well as DC/Battery controls. Candidates must possess thorough experience in generating drawings such as One Lines, AC/DC Schematics/Elementaries, Wiring/Connections and Front/Rear View Panel/Eqpt Layouts using AutoCAD and/or Microstation design software packages. Ideal candidates will possess a learning mindset and be self-starters.

Responsibilities

• Effectively and efficiently collaborates with other design team members to complete work assignments.
• Performs a self-check on all work assignments prior to returning them to the checker and performs assignments with little to no errors and within allotted budgets/schedules.
• Develop and/or assist in the development or check of AC Schematics, DC Schematics, Panel Layouts, Wiring/Connection diagrams, and Bills of Materials.
• Proficient at leading and instructing design team members on a project level.
• Collaborates effectively and efficiently with multi-discipline departments on all projects.
• P&C design for substations ranging from 12kV to 500kV.
• Properly apply client's substation design standards to the work.
• Successfully work on multiple projects concurrently.
• Professionally handle client communications and relationships.
