Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Commercial & Industrial team in supporting complex power systems design, relay upgrades, and life-extension projects that power communities and critical infrastructure. You will provide technical leadership across multiple clients and coordinate with sales and operations to ensure successful project delivery.

Ideal candidates have PE licensure, 5+ years in primary power distribution design, and experience with AutoCAD and power system

Qualifications

• ABET accredited degree in electrical engineering (BEng or MEng) with focus on power systems.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• 5+ years of design engineering experience on primary power distribution, P&C schemes, and/or electrical equipment.
• Experience developing relay protective setpoints and settings files.
• Strong knowledge of NEC/NFPA 70, ANSI C57/C37, and NESC and related codes.
• 5 years of AutoCAD experience.
• 5 years using power systems modeling software (ETAP, SKM, EasyPower).
• Strong communication skills to discuss technical recommendations with customers.

Responsibilities

• Lead LV/MV electrical design for substations and industrial power distribution projects.
• Develop specifications for medium and low voltage equipment.
• Collaborate with CAD to produce One-Line drawings and schematics.
• Perform short circuit and arc flash studies and review field data.
• Support sales during customer site walks and coordinate with project teams.
• Ensure safety protocols and project hand-offs between sales and engineering.

Job description

Power your future with Qualus as a Senior Electrical Engineer, to join our Commerical & Industrial team to support the design of complex and large power systems, relay upgrades and modifications, and life- extension projects that power communities and critical infrastructure . This role offers long-term workload stability, exposure to a diverse portfolio of projects, and the opportunity to provide technical leadership across multiple clients.

Responsibilities

• Medium and low voltage electrical design consisting of, but not limited to: Outdoor substations, unit substations, power transformers, protection and control schemes, power monitoring, circuit breaker replacements, relay replacements, brownfield and greenfield EPC projects.
• Specification development for medium and low voltage electrical equipment.
• Works with CAD staff to develop and/or update client electrical drawings including one lines, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
• Reviews field data and performs coordination, short circuit , and arc flash studies.
• Review power monitoring data to provide customer recommendations.
• Act as a representative of Qualus to support sales in customer site walks.
• Leads interaction with other functions and locations to determine optimum solutions.
• Remains current on all safety and technical training.
• Adheres to all company , industry and client safety protocols and standards.
• Assesses project specific resource needs and coordinates assignments with project manager.
• Communicates core technical job requirements.
• Supports immediate supervisor on planning and organizing workload to ensure the most effective return on assets.
• Coordinates proper project hand-off between sales and operations/engineering.
• Participates in project kickoff meetings to discuss work scope, project specifications, budgets, schedules, and safety requirements with project team.
• Effectively communicates with other departments to assure activities are properly coordinated.
• Ensures timely and accurate invoicing for all engineering projects by providing all paperwork in a like manner; these include Service Acknowledgement Forms (SAFs), weekly time keeping, documentation of change orders, test reports, and other documents as required by the project deliverables.
• Consults and coordinates as necessary to utilize suppliers with the capabilities to meet material and equipment needs.
• Up to 10% travel may be required for training and visiting customer job sites.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering or related from an ABET accredited institution, preferred with a focus on power systems.
• PE License Required.
• 5+ years of design engineering experience on primary power distribution, P&C schemes, and/or electrical equipment.
• Experience developing relay protective setpoints and settings files.
• Working knowledge of NEC/NFPA 70, ANSI C57, ANSI C37, and NESC, and other applicable codes and standards in the design of substations and industrial power distribution.
• 5 years of AutoCAD experience.
• 5 years using power systems modeling software such as ETAP, SKM, and/or EasyPower .
• Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively discuss technical recommendations with customers.
• Ability to work independently, accurately, and with high attention to detail.
