Job summary

JSI is seeking a Senior OSP Designer to join the Engineering team in our Charlotte, NC office. You will plan, design, document, and permit new outside plant FTTx build-outs and collaborate with the Fiber Design & Implementation team to deliver high-quality, compliant deliverables.

The role requires experience in telecom OSP construction, GIS proficiency, and CAD tooling, with a focus on accuracy, deadlines, and cross-functional communication.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required.
• 6+ years of telecom engineering and design experience.
• Working knowledge of GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS/Google Earth).
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD or CAD-based software.
• Ability to read maps, diagrams, and telecom OSP construction drawings.
• Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.

Responsibilities

• Reads and interprets maps, drawings, and diagrams for Telecom/FFTx OSP construction.
• Creates and reviews fiber assignments (schematics), high- and low-level designs.
• Communicates with project managers, permitting team, and field personnel to deliver accurate outputs on schedule.
• Continuously improves tasks, processes, and technical knowledge.
• Performs other tasks as assigned by manager/supervisor.

Position Overview

As a Senior OSP Designer on the Engineering team, you will be responsible for planning, designing, documenting, and permitting proposed new outside plant FTTx build-outs. This role will work as a member of the Fiber Design & Implementation team to produce high-quality deliverables for buried, underground, and aerial fiber applications.

Responsibilities

• Reads and understands maps, drawings, and diagrams for Telecom/FFTx OSP construction.
• Creates and reviews fiber assignments (schematics), high-level designs, and low-level designs.
• Communicates with project managers, permitting team, and field personnel to produce accurate deliverables in accordance with deadlines, client expectations, and JSI standards.
• Continuously improves job-related tasks and processes, technical and professional knowledge, skills, and performance.
• Completes other tasks as assigned by manager/supervisor.

Required Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required.
• 6+ years of experience in telecom engineering and design is required.
• Working knowledge of GIS, including ArcGIS/QGIS/Google Earth, etc.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD or other CAD-based software.
• Ability to read and understand maps, drawings, and diagrams for Telecom/FFTx OSP construction.
• Must possess intermediate skills in basic programs like Microsoft Office, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Highly organized, self-starter, and detail-oriented.
• Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills.
• Superior time management and strong attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

• A post-secondary degree in engineering, GIS, or a related field is desired.
