Job summary

Luminit Inc. in Torrance, CA, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to own the mechanical design, structural analysis, prototyping, and integration of optical product assemblies for aerospace programs, starting with an eVTOL cabin display project.

You will design housings and fixtures, run GD&T analysis, and collaborate with optical and certification teams to deliver design substantiation. You’ll work hands-on through prototyping and build, coordinating with internal teams and external

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• 7+ years mechanical design experience in aerospace/defense or similar.
• Strong CAD proficiency (SolidWorks) with assembly modeling and GD&T.
• Experience producing mechanical interface control documents and interfacing with customer teams.
• Experience in AS9100 or equivalent quality environment.
• Familiarity with environmental qualification methods (DO-160, MIL-STD-810).
• Model-based definition (MBD) proficiency.
• Vendor management for sub-tier components.

Responsibilities

• Design housings, mounts, fixtures, and tooling for optical assemblies.
• Develop CAD models, STEP files, drawings, and BOMs.
• Perform tolerance analysis and lead design reviews with GD&T.
• Coordinate with optical engineering on interface definitions.
• Support certification deliverables and test setups.
• Lead mechanical design and assembly of prototypes and coordinate with partners.
• Create MICD and installation instructions with customers.
• Work with Manufacturing and Quality on producibility.
