Job summary

Orion Space Solutions is seeking an Optical Technician III to join the EO/IR optical engineering team in Louisville, Colorado. This on-site role involves turning optical designs and test plans into reliable lab data and flight-ready hardware.

You will perform FTIR measurements, contribute to visible-through-LWIR characterization, and manage lab data and equipment, with an emphasis on precision and disciplined test execution.

Qualifications

• HS 5-6 Years experience in optical manufacturing or R&D environment.
• Proficiency with optical tools and instruments.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of optical lens technology.
• Attention to detail and precision.
• Effective communication skills.
• Basic computer skills for record-keeping.
• Minimum 2 years as Optical Technician.
• Strong understanding of optical principles and systems.
• Experience with testing, troubleshooting, repairing optical systems.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Set up and run optical tests for payloads, optical benches, filters, detectors, and calibration hardware.
• Perform FTIR measurements and spectral characterization of optical components and assemblies.
• Support optical measurements from visible to LWIR using FTIR systems, spectrometers, and lab equipment.
• Perform basic to intermediate optical metrology and inspections.
• Set up and align optical benches and measurement setups with minimal supervision.
• Handle optical components with proper cleanroom and contamination-control practices.
• Collect, organize, and reduce test data; maintain lab notebooks and logs.
• Support incoming inspection, supplier testing, and environmental measurements.
• Keep the lab ready to work by maintaining equipment and improving procedures.
