Job summary

Corning Incorporated in Texas seeks a Senior Prototyping Technician to advance optical fiber connectivity by designing, building, and testing prototype components and lab systems. You will turn concepts into functional prototypes and scalable solutions, collaborating closely with engineers and manufacturing teams.

The role requires a 2-year technical degree or equivalent, 5+ years in related labs or manufacturing engineering, and strong hands-on prototyping and measurement skills.

Qualifications

• Two-year technical degree or equivalent work experience is required.
• 5+ years in development, experimental lab, manufacturing engineering, prototype shop, or similar technical environment.
• Experience building, modifying, troubleshooting, and testing mechanical/electromechanical prototypes, fixtures, equipment, or assemblies.
• Experience supporting product/process development or technology transfer projects.
• Experience with electrical/mechanical assembly and data collection; debugging mechanical/electrical/pneumatic/automated systems.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications.
• Proficiency with hand tools, lab equipment, and rapid prototyping (machining, 3D printing, laser processing).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead hands-on design, fabrication, assembly, modification, and troubleshooting of prototype equipment, fixtures, tooling, and fiber optic termination systems.
• Plan and execute complex prototype builds and DOE-based tests; develop test methods, analyze data, and report findings.
• Collaborate with engineers to convert designs into functional prototypes and improve processes.
• Set up, calibrate, and maintain lab equipment; create build records, test reports, and BOMs.
• Partner with global plants to assess manufacturability and guide junior technicians and contractors as needed.
