Job summary
Muon Space is seeking a Senior Optical Engineer in Mountain View to own stray light control for infrared systems. You will define precise coating and surface specifi- cations, validate through metrology, and drive R&D on novel coatings and filters.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's/Master's/Doctorate in engineering or physics with relevant experience.
- 5+ years designing optical systems emphasizing stray light analyses and coatings.
- Experience with non-sequential ray tracing and stray light analysis software.
- Experience defining technical specs for optical components and managing external vendors.
- Hands-on metrology knowledge for coatings, filters, and scatter measurements.
Responsibilities
- Perform stray light analysis using FRED to quantify stray light, scatter, ghosting, and self-emission.
- Specify and analyze custom coatings and surface treatments to maximize transmission and durability.
- Serve as technical liaison with optical component vendors from concept to delivery.
- Drive R&D to advance coating technologies and filter survivability in harsh environments.
- Define test plans using spectrophotometry, BRDF, and related metrology to verify vendor deliverables.
- Collaborate with optical and mechanical designers to optimize layouts based on stray light results.
