Job summary

Amazon is seeking a Sr. Optical Network Engineer for Inter-satellite Link Avionics in Redmond.

You will lead hardware and systems development for space-to-space and space-to-ground optical links, owning a subsystem, driving design guidance, and elevating engineering excellence. The role requires deep experience with high-speed optics, lasers, and RF/optical components, along with leadership in large-scale hardware programs.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of major internet routing protocols experience.
• 5+ years of Linux/Unix environment experience.
• Experience with solving complex technical problems autonomously and leading major technology implementations.
• Experience with high-speed characterization of devices and test equipment.
• Experience with lasers, detectors, modulators, and optical components.
• Experience developing test scripts for automation, data acquisition, and analysis.
• Experience designing scalable, testable, maintainable solutions.
• Experience leading internal design reviews and providing technical guidance.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, prototyping, and characterization of hardware for high-speed intersatellite and space-to-ground links.
• Qualify commercial components and drive development of custom components for low-cost, light-weight systems.
• Lead verification, testing, and establish engineering standards across the org.
• Improve consistency between optical systems and related systems across teams.
• Troubleshoot complex issues in collaboration with stakeholders to deliver links.
• Analyze large data sets to identify gaps, risks, and improvements.
• Drive best practices in Operational Excellence, Security, and Quality.
• Mentor and coach team members to raise technical capabilities.
• Influence technical and business strategy with sound trade-offs.
