Job summary

Molex is seeking a Sr Optical Alignment Engineer to lead optical coupling of photonic components to laser diodes for advanced packages. You will own alignment equipment and processes, ensuring sub-micron stability for long-term reliability, in close collaboration with R&D, design, manufacturing, suppliers and customers.

The role requires deep expertise in Zemax, laser diodes, and high-precision assembly methods, driving NPI and Telcordia qualification readiness while aligning with product teams

Qualifications

• PhD in Optics, Photonics, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• 10+ years of industry R&D experience developing optoelectronic packages transferred to manufacturing environments.
• Hands-on experience specifying the design of optical alignment equipment to achieve submicron tolerances.
• Experience with Zemax or similar optics software to optimize designs.
• Knowledgeable of laser diodes, gratings, mirrors, lenses, PIC, SOA.
• Experience with stable attachment methods (glass frit, solder, epoxy).
• Experience with qualification methodologies (GR-468) and reliability testing.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership to design novel optical assemblies for coupling III-V laser diodes with high efficiency
• Design fiber mounts/assembly including lenses, PICs, SOA, VBG; specify optical alignment equipment needs
• Develop submicron alignment processes (x, y, z, f) and component attachment
• Collaborate with R&D and manufacturing to ensure high-yield assembly flows
• Define pre-qualification testing to verify submicron optical stability for Telcordia
• Support failure analysis investigations and corrective actions for misalignment
• Work with laser diode experts to optimize optical designs for high coupling efficiency
