Job summary

UPS is seeking a Senior Operations Research Analyst to design, develop, and deploy advanced optimization and analytics-driven decision-support systems across the organization. You will collaborate with software, data, and business teams to translate complex challenges into scalable models and robust solutions.

The role requires a Ph.D. in OR or related field, experience with LP/MILP/network optimization, and proficiency in Java/Python/C++.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Operations Research or closely related field.
• Experience designing, developing, and implementing moderately to highly complex mathematical optimization models and analytical solutions.
• Strong knowledge of operations research methodologies, including linear programming, MILP, network optimization, and related techniques.
• Experience with commercial optimization solvers such as Gurobi, CPLEX, Xpress, or equivalent technologies.
• Strong programming skills and experience developing production-quality analytical software using languages such as Java, Python, C++, or similar.
• Experience designing scalable, maintainable, and well-documented analytical solutions deployed in production environments.
• Ability to independently solve complex technical problems and lead analytical initiatives from concept through deployment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and deployment of advanced optimization and decision-support systems.
• Translate business requirements into quantitative modeling frameworks, including objectives, constraints, assumptions, performance measures, and solution methodologies.
• Architect scalable optimization solutions for enterprise production environments.
• Develop mathematical models using LP, MILP, network, and stochastic optimization.
• Evaluate decomposition techniques, heuristics, and algorithms to improve performance.
• Lead model validation, calibration, sensitivity analysis, and stress testing.
• Collaborate with software and data engineers to integrate models into enterprise systems.
• Monitor production performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Document modeling specifications and deployment procedures.
• Communicate analytical results to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Provide mentorship and stay current with OR advances.
