The Senior Operations Designer keeps the engine of print production running smoothly and efficiently, and ensures all advertising materials are accounted for each week. The ideal candidate has strong leadership qualities, works well with many different personalities, and demonstrates organizational and communication skills. The Senior Designer thrives in a dynamic work environment, multitasks very well and proactively communicates to advertising and event teams. A strict attention to detail and ability to take direction and follow procedures are required.

• Ensure all advertising materials for multiple market print editions are accounted for on time each week, whether materials are coming from clients or in-house
• Assist Design Operations manager with staff training, testing new initiatives, finding areas of efficiency, filling in when others are away, and working with markets on correcting challenges
• Preflight advertising materials from clients to check for size and coloring issues, and provide final files to the News Design Desk for placement on pages
• Keep track of special products and their deadlines, including advertising publications and inserts
• Maintain professional and helpful relationships with multiple local market advertising teams.
• Hold local advertising and event teams to production procedures, deadlines, and workflows, including the use of Jira and Sharepoint
• Assemble People on the Move, Biz Spotlight, and Classified pages
• Identify and attend training opportunities
• Take on other duties assigned by Design Operations Director as needed
• Background in newspaper production and/or project management
• Experience with Adobe CC design tools and Microsoft products, especially InDesign, Acrobat, and Excel
• Experience preflighting ads in CMYK, editing PDFs and print production processes
• Basic understanding of layout, typography, and color outputs
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Understanding of local market advertising teams and how they operate on a daily basis
• Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication, cross-group collaboration, and planning skills with a strict attention to details, process and deadlines
