Job summary

First Horizon Bank is seeking a Business Risk Oversight Officer to provide independent 2LOD oversight and credible challenge across assigned lines of business. You will validate risk and control effectiveness, review RCSAs and KRIs, and lead efforts to strengthen controls while promoting a risk-aware culture across the organization.

The role emphasizes collaboration with 1LOD, escalation when needed, and leveraging automation/AI to broaden risk coverage and improve oversight efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in 2LOD operational risk management or 1LOD business controls within banking/financial services.
• Deep understanding of US banking regulations and Fed guidance on operational risk and governance.
• Ability to articulate connections across risk programs and influence stakeholders to use risk data in decisions.
• Proficiency at assessing current processes with an eye towards efficiency and automation.
• Strong oral and written communication skills across organizational levels.
• Proven ability to collaborate across the enterprise to solve complex challenges.
• Experience leading teams through change with a vision for transformation.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives and deliver results.

Responsibilities

• Independently assess the operational risk and control environment across assigned businesses/functions; validate risks and controls are identified, designed, and operating effectively.
• Review and challenge RCSAs, process maps, and control effectiveness; opine on inherent/residual risk, control gaps, and remediation plans.
• Evaluate and challenge KRIs, thresholds, and triggers; monitor breaches and trends against risk appetite and tolerance.
• Oversee issue and incident management, including client-impacting events: opine on root cause, corrective action plans, and sustainable remediation.
• Review operational loss events and near misses; identify systemic themes and drive lessons learned into control enhancements.
• Provide independent challenge for change risk including Third-Party Risk Management assessments.
• Coach and advise first line associates on risk frameworks, methodologies, and regulatory expectations while maintaining independence.
• Facilitate workshops to uplift risk capability and strengthen risk culture.
• Build relationships to influence risk-informed decisions and promote timely escalation and resolution of emerging risks.
• Champion integration of automated technologies and AI-led strategies to improve efficiency of 2LOD oversight.
• Support board and executive reporting with clear analysis of key risk exposures, trends, and mitigations.
• Coordinate with other risk areas to ensure integrated oversight and response to risk themes.
• Engage in regulatory exams and risk assessments involving assigned LOBs/business units.
• Participate in industry forums and build relationships with other financial institutions.
