Job summary

Magrathea, a Salt Lake City–area project, needs a hands‑on operations leader to build and run a demonstration magnesium plant from construction through startup and day‑to‑day production.

You will review PFDs and P&IDs, guide commissioning, lead a small on‑site team, manage safety, cost, and data, and coordinate with engineers, operators, vendors, regulators, and executives to deliver reliable operation.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in high‑accountability operating environments in chemical or minerals processing, metals, manufacturing, energy, or heavy industry.
• Experience commissioning and starting up a new plant, process unit, or major capital project.
• Ability to lead an operations team, set clear expectations, and hold operators accountable for safe production and reliable data collection.
• Experience coaching and qualifying operators through practical training.
• Ability to interpret process trends, diagnose deviations, and translate findings into corrective actions and learning.
• Strong process engineering fluency: read and critique PFDs, P&IDs, mass/energy balances, and equipment specs.
• Proven safety leadership in hazardous‑process environments with knowledge of PSM/HAZOP/OSHA/EPA requirements.
• Track record owning production, cost, reliability, and quality targets with P&L or operating budget ownership.
• Comfort with production reporting and CMMS tools.

Responsibilities

• Own the safe, compliant, on‑budget delivery of the Salt Lake City Area demonstration facility.
• Serve as senior operational presence on the ground, interfacing daily with host‑site partners, EPC/engineering firms, contractors, and vendors.
• Lead commissioning and startup; define data collection requirements and document results to guide improvements.
• Plan operating campaigns, prioritize long‑lead equipment, and manage preventive maintenance and outages.
• Recruit, hire, and develop the site team, including training and performance management.
• Manage site budget and cost controls, supporting capital cost definitions and leadership decisions.
