Job summary

Jacobs is seeking an On-Site Mechanical Engineer for a project near Baton Rouge, LA. The role serves as the field representative for mechanical systems, coordinating between construction and the engineering design team to ensure installation quality and timely delivery.

The position requires 10+ years in mechanical design/operations or 5+ years in hyperscale data centers, with experience in chilled water systems, CRAH/CRAC, and piping.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years in mechanical design, construction, commissioning, or operations; or 5+ years in hyperscale data centers.
• Experience with chilled water systems, cooling plants, CRAH/CRAC, piping, and mission-critical environments.
• Strong knowledge of codes, specs, and industry standards.
• Ability to evaluate field conditions and provide practical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary on-site representative for HVAC, cooling, piping, plumbing, and other mechanical systems.
• Perform daily site observations and assess installation progress and workmanship.
• Coordinate mechanical design clarifications and field solutions with project stakeholders.
• Facilitate responses to RFIs, submittals, equipment substitutions, and field conflicts.
• Support reviews of equipment layouts, utility routing, and coordination between trades.
• Participate in constructability reviews, BIM coordination activities, and mockup evaluations.
• Identify and document mechanical installation deficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
• Support factory testing, bench testing, startup activities, and commissioning preparation.
• Coordinate with QA/QC and commissioning teams to resolve installation issues.
• Attend project meetings and provide technical guidance on mechanical systems.
• Issue weekly reports summarizing observations, risks, corrective actions, and schedule impacts.
• Proactively identify design, quality, and schedule risks and support resolution strategies.
