Job summary

Panthalassa seeks a Senior Marine Engineer, Marine Operations, to lead offshore deployment, testing, and maintenance of autonomous ocean energy assets from cradle to grave. You will own mechanical designs, perform analyses, and guide teams through fabrication and commissioning in harsh offshore environments.

The role requires hands-on engineering across mechanical disciplines and strong collaboration with regulators and vendors. Portland-based, with offshore travel and flexible scheduling.

Qualifications

• BS or higher in mechanical or marine engineering.
• 5+ years owning hardware development from concept through commissioning.
• Strong understanding of marine systems, hydraulics and automation.
• Ability to manage vendor relations.
• Leadership experience or potential.
• Experience offshore is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership for offshore operations, including load-outs, wet towage, deployments, recoveries, moorings, and test campaigns.
• People manager for a small team of technicians offshore.
• Coordinate efforts of critical vendors, including vessel operators, ports, equipment operators, divers, etc.
• Work with engineering to commission and test new offshore equipment.
• Collaborate with engineering to improve existing means and develop new means for offshore operations.
• Grow the offshore team structure with leadership input.
• Oversee maintenance of owned equipment.
• Interface with regulators (USCG, ABS, etc.).
• Serve as the Responsible Engineer for novel automated marine systems.
• Carry out trade studies to identify preferred architectures/requirements.
• Perform engineering analysis and support subject matter experts.
• Detail CAD designs and schematics.
• Execute fabrication, testing, and commissioning of critical assets.
• Support initial commissioning of new systems and sustaining engineering.
