Job Overview/Summary

The External Relations (ER) department includes Private Fundraising, Communications, and Advocacy. Its main goal is to enable the organization of over 15,000 staff to serve 18 million people affected by war and disaster. The Philanthropy unit within ER focuses on engaging High-Net-Worth Individuals.

Positioned within the USA Philanthropy department, the Major Giving West team aims to enhance private support by engaging, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding significant, multi-year commitments from high-net-worth individuals in the western U.S. We seek an experienced Senior Officer to manage relationships with donors capable of giving $100K or more, focusing on the Southwestern U.S. region. The role involves managing a portfolio of donors and prospects, cultivating relationships, and securing five to six-figure gifts through donor-centric practices, collaborating with IRC leaders and teams to build a strong pipeline and increase revenue.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of up to 100 high-net-worth individuals, guiding each through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Discover new prospects through relationship and network mapping, qualifying prospects via research.
  • Design engagement strategies with the Director, Major Giving, to deepen donor commitment and increase giving.
  • Travel within the region to meet with donors, prospects, and suspects.
  • Implement activities that result in funds raised personally and with leadership support.
  • Prepare strategies and materials for face-to-face meetings and solicitations.
  • Collaborate across IRC teams to align priorities and increase income through deep engagement.
  • Work with Account Managers to track progress and move prospects through the donor lifecycle.
  • Undertake special projects as needed.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • 5+ years of progressive fundraising or sales experience, with a proven record of closing multiple 5- and 6-figure gifts.
  • Experience in developing multi-year funding opportunities and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to craft nuanced donor strategies and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to analyze financial data and navigate CRM systems.
  • Dedication to fundraising for international development, humanitarian efforts, and social justice causes.
Working Environment
  • This is a remote role requiring a dedicated workspace and willingness to travel domestically, especially to LA/Orange County for donor visits.
