Job summary

AXIS Capital is seeking a Senior Underwriter – Ocean Marine Cargo in New York or Chicago. The role requires hands-on technical underwriting with extensive experience building and managing a complex Ocean Marine Cargo portfolio and strong broker relationships across wholesale and retail channels.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of direct Ocean Marine Cargo underwriting experience.
• Experience building and managing complex Ocean Cargo business.
• Experience with Logistics, Cargo Legal Liability, Warehouse Legal Liability, E&O, Shipper’s Interest, or related transport/liability products is strongly preferred.
• Understanding of supply-chain exposures and the contractual relationships among cargo owners, freight forwarders, logistics providers, warehouse operators, and transportation intermediaries.
• Ability to build and expand retail and wholesale broker relationships.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and manage complex Ocean Marine Cargo business, including Small and Middle Market, Large Complex Transit, Stock Throughput, and Excess Stock Exposure risks.
• Evaluate Marine Logistics opportunities that complement the Ocean Cargo portfolio, including Cargo Legal Liability and Warehouse Legal Liability.
• Review contractual and operational exposures to determine appropriate coverage structure, limits, retentions, pricing, terms, conditions, and endorsements.
• Develop and maintain strong wholesale and retail broker relationships to generate submissions and expand the portfolio.
• Prospect for new business and develop strategies targeting Small to Middle Market and Large Complex Corporate risks.
