Job summary

Housing Works, Inc. in New York seeks a Senior Nurse Manager to lead the nursing department, ensuring consistent, attentive, and efficient care for patients.

You will monitor nursing staff, activities, and patient outcomes while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local standards. In this leadership role you will shape policies, supervise RNs/LPNs/MAs, oversee infection control, coordinate QA initiatives, manage staffing, and mentor clinical teams.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a NYS RN license and BSN.
  • Master's degree preferred for leadership.
  • Three+ year supervisory nursing experience in ambulatory or acute settings.
  • Knowledge of FQHC, state, local, and federal laws.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and EMR systems.
  • Experience in community-based settings with LGBTQIA+ and homelessness challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Nursing in developing, maintaining, and implementing nursing policies and procedures.
  • Communicate and interpret policies to staff and monitor practices.
  • Assist in infection control program implementation and monitoring.
  • Oversee RNs, LPNs, and MAs and coordinate in-service education.
  • Participate in recruitment and staff training.
  • Evaluate staff performance and apply disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Coordinate QA activities with the QI department.
  • Oversee staffing schedules to ensure proper coverage.
  • Promote teamwork, positive employee relations, and patient-centered care.
  • Collaborate with department heads, labs, radiology, and specialty services.

Compensation Range:

$100,000-110,000 commensurate with experience

Benefits:

Overview:

The Senior Nurse Manager will assist in ensuring the nursing department provides consistent, attentive, and efficient care to patients. The Senior Nurse Manager is responsible for monitoring nursing staff, nursing activities, and patient care, as well as ensuring nursing activities are in compliance with federal, state, and local standards. The Senior Nurse Manager serves as a representative and promotes the best interests of their staff and the patients they serve.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Director of Nursing in the development, maintenance, and implementation of nursing policies and procedures that conform to current standards of evidence-based nursing practice while maintaining compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Communicates and interprets policies and procedures to nursing staff, and monitors staff practices and implementation.
  • Assist Director of Nursing in the establishment, implementation, and monitoring of the infection control program designed to provide a safe, sanitary and comfortable environment designed to prevent the transmission of disease and infection.
  • Oversees and supervises RNs, LPNs, and MAs and in the development and delivery of in-service education to equip nursing staff with knowledge and skills to provide quality care to patients.
  • Participates in the recruitment and selection of nursing personnel and assures that staff are properly trained.
  • Evaluates the work performance of all nursing personnel and implements discipline according to operational policies.
  • Coordinates and develops on-going QA activities for nursing services in collaboration with QI department.
  • Oversees schedules for RNs, LPNs, MAs to ensure proper coverage.
  • Proactively develops positive employee relations.
  • Promotes teamwork, mutual respect, and effective communication.
  • Promotes customer service and responds to and adequately resolves complaints or concerns from patients about nursing services.
  • Collaborates with department heads, interdisciplinary teams and other stakeholders to develop, implement and evaluate programs and services to maintain a high quality of care for patients.
  • Serves as a liaison between agency and laboratory, radiology, and specialist consultation services.
  • Maintains nursing supplies through studying usage reports, identifying upward or downward trends, anticipating needs, and approval of requisitions and cost allocations.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge and skills through attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional organizations.

Job Requirements:
  • Must possess a current NYS license as a Registered Nurse and have graduated from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Master's degree preferred.
  • Three-year plus nursing supervisory experience in ambulatory care or acute long-term setting.
  • Knowledge of FQHC, state, local, and federal laws and guidelines.
  • Must possess and demonstrate a high degree of leadership, organizational ability, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and familiar with electronic medical record systems
  • Preference for individuals with experiencing working in a community-based setting, particularly with patients who are LGTBQIA+, and/or have experienced homelessness, substance use, and/or mental health challenges
