Nuclear Ventilation Engineer for AP Farm/Waste Transfer Engineering
Work as a mechanical engineer in support nuclear ventilation systems in the 241-AP Tank Farms. The Tank Farms contractor, Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure (H2C), is committed to the safe and efficient management, retrieval and treatment of radioactive and hazardous risks to the Columbia River for the Hanford Tank Farms. The Tank Farms store radioactive and hazardous legacy waste from nuclear weapons production facilities in underground waste storage tanks. These underground tanks require ventilation to remove flammable gases and toxic vapors from the tank headspace and exhaust those gases and vapors away from the workers.
The primary responsibility of the position is to provide mechanical engineering support to the nuclear ventilation systems associated with the 241-AP Double-Shell Tanks at Hanford. Candidate will be required to provide maintenance instruction as well as support troubleshooting of mechanical systems, control systems, and facility instrumentation. Under minimal supervision, candidate plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and adaptation or modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. May function as a group participant and frequently as a lead on project or departmental task assignments.
-Develops corrective, preventative and predictive maintenance plans for nuclear ventilation systems.
-Demonstrates problem-solving skills. Troubleshooting of nuclear ventilation systems is frequently required.
-Develops procedures for nuclear ventilation systems.
-Maintains configuration management of nuclear ventilation systems.
-Performs a variety of engineering tasks in the initial planning and design phase of projects (Facility Modification/Engineering Change Notices, Calculations, Maintenance, Operations & Administrative Procedure changes, etc.).
-Provides technical guidance to subcontractors in the execution of design (e.g., ensure use of correct design inputs, utilization of accepted analysis methodologies, design standards, and verification methods).
-Provides verbal and written reports and formal presentations to immediate Manager, Senior Management, and/or DOE ORP. Provides engineering services to Lead Discipline engineer.
-Complies with H2C policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
Grade 18:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline; and
Seven (7) years of related experience
Grade 19:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline; and
Nine (9) years of related experience
Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.
Grade 20:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline; and
Ten (10) years of related experience
Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope responsibility is significantly larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.
Desired Qualifications
-Experience with ANSI N13.1
-Experience with ASME AG-1
-Experience with Environmental regulatory compliance for chemical, and radiological air emissions.
-Experience with nuclear ventilation systems and knowledge of required maintenance.
-Good interpersonal and communication skills needed to be able to communicate with personnel, management, and support organizations.
-Seeks to understand engineering work assignments to become self-directed. Sets high standard of performance for self and group as well as setting challenging goals for personal and group.
-Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field.
-General knowledge of other related disciplines.
-Maintains a working knowledge of the Tank Farms (TF) Documented Safety Analysis (DSA), Technical Safety Requirements (TSR), and Environmental Permit requirements as they apply to the facility systems.
In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, H2C takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made within the targeted hiring range posted. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
Hiring Range Minimum: $106,663
Hiring Range Maximum: $162,688
