Job summary

Humanoid is seeking a Senior NPI Mechanical Engineer to establish our mechanical New Product Introduction practices from scratch, guiding hardware programs from concept through early production readiness in Massachusetts.

In this hands‑on, cross‑functional role you will own DFM/DFA/DFT, GD&T, and quality processes, stand up gate maturity, and partner with design, quality, supply chain, and contract manufacturers to scale from prototype to high‑volume production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience, including significant time in NPI roles.
• Experience taking products from concept through mass production, ideally in robotics or complex mech​atronic systems.
• Strong knowledge of DFM/DFA/DFT, GD&T, and manufacturing processes (injection molding, sheet metal, machining, casting).
• Hands-on experience with FMEA, 8D, root cause analysis, and SPC.
• Proven experience managing supplier relationships and onboarding.
• Experience standing up or scaling manufacturing lines at contract manufacturers.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical NPI activities across the full product lifecycle from concept through pilot builds to sustained production.
• Review designs for manufacturability, assembly, and testability (DFM/DFA/DFT) to influence early decisions.
• Define and implement a lightweight gate process (EVT/DVT/PVT‑equivalent) for our stage, owning deliverables at each gate.
• Coordinate cross-functionally with electrical, industrial design, quality, supply chain, and program management to stay on schedule and within budget.
• Evaluate and select manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixturing for current and future scale.
• Identify bottlenecks in prototypes and early pilot builds and lay groundwork for throughput and yield improvements.
• Develop assembly processes, work instructions, and line layouts with internal teams and contract manufacturers.
• Lead design-for-scale reviews to mitigate risks before mass production.
• Lead defect triage and containment during prototypes, define and track quality metrics, and drive CAPA programs.
