Job summary

Creative Financial Staffing is partnering with a respected nonprofit in Providence, RI, to identify an experienced Controller to lead the accounting and finance function. This hands-on leader will oversee a large team, ensure grant reporting compliance, and drive strategic financial planning in a mission-driven organization.

The role offers a hybrid work model (3 days on-site in Providence) and a salary up to $145,000 with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Must have nonprofit accounting experience.
• Experience managing a large accounting team.
• CPA strongly preferred.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance leadership.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
• Proven success overseeing audits, financial reporting, and compliance functions.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to balance strategic initiatives with hands-on execution.

Responsibilities

• Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, month-end close, financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management.
• Manage, mentor, and develop a large accounting and finance team, fostering accountability and professional growth.
• Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, grant reporting requirements, and regulatory filings.
• Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary liaison to external auditors.
• Monitor internal controls and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning efforts.
• Partner with executive leadership to provide financial analysis and strategic guidance.
• Oversee restricted funds, grant accounting, and funding source compliance.
• Ensure timely preparation and filing of all required federal, state, and nonprofit reporting requirements.
