Socket.dev in Hoboken, NJ is hiring a Principal Data Scientist to own domain-specific content modeling end-to-end. You will design NLP pipelines, evaluate approaches, and ship production-grade models that scale to millions of journal articles.

You’ll work with editors, product managers, and engineers to translate requirements into robust modeling solutions. You will write production-quality Python, collaborate with data engineers using Airflow and Dagster, and contribute to agentic AI

Qualifications

• Proven Python in production, at scale.
• Strong NLP background across modern and classical approaches.
• Ability to defend modeling choices with evaluation and cost.
• Track record of shipping production systems delivering value.

Responsibilities

• Design and build NLP enrichment pipelines that extract entities, classifications, claims, and summaries from scientific full-text at scale.
• Compare NLP approaches to extraction and enrichment against LLM-based approaches, choosing the right tool for each task with evaluation, cost, and operational tradeoffs.
• Own evaluation; build golden sets with SMEs and vendors, select metrics, balance speed and quality.
• Write production-quality Python, manage concurrency and cost for high-volume LLM workloads.
• Collaborate with data engineers to orchestrate data pipelines using Airflow and Dagster; design idempotent, retryable stages.
• Contribute to agentic AI applications: tool-using systems and evaluations that shape grounding and defense of answers.
