Job summary

Washington University is seeking a Senior Research Technician to help launch a program in human motor neurophysiology, adaptive deep brain stimulation, and brain–computer interfaces. You will build intraoperative recording infrastructure, establish a prospective neurosurgical research registry, and collect multi-modal neural and kinematic data in the OR and clinic.

The role requires independent work, collaboration with clinicians and engineers, and hands-on experience with electrophysiology,

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in laboratory research settings preferred.
  • Willingness to work in clinical environments and follow protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate intraoperative human neurophysiology recordings during awake DBS, sEEG, and related procedures.
  • Set up and troubleshoot multi-modal data acquisition systems (microelectrode recording, LFP, IMU, EMG, motion capture).
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain intraoperative and clinic-based behavioral task paradigms.
  • Build and maintain a prospective intraoperative research registry with data ingest pipelines and quality control.
  • Coordinate IRB submissions and ensure regulatory compliance across studies.
  • Assist with scheduling, consent workflows, and coordination with clinical teams.
  • Collaborate with OR staff, neurosurgery, neurology, engineering, and external partners.
  • Perform preliminary analysis and visualization with Python and MATLAB.
  • Assist with lab operations, inventory, and safety compliance.
  • Train and supervise junior technicians and rotating students.
