Job summary

BU Consultants is seeking a Senior Network Test Engineer to lead complex testing and certification of LAN/WAN, data center, and campus networks in a New York on-site role. You will supervise test strategies, collaborate with vendors, and drive automation to improve coverage and efficiency.

The role requires hands-on experience with Cisco and Arista platforms, plus Python/Ansible automation. Expect collaboration with cross-functional teams and regular reporting to management.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of network engineering experience.
• Strong LAN/WAN, data center, campus and WAN/MAN networks knowledge.
• Proficient with BGP/OSPF/IGMP/PIM and Layer 2 protocols including Spanning Tree.
• Hands-on Cisco Catalyst/Nexus and IOS/XE/NX-OS code certification and bug scrubs.
• Arista experience preferred; Python and Ansible for automation; Linux basics.
• Experience with Wireshark, tcpdump; XR/IXIA/Spirent for validation.
• Lab testing, certification processes, and multi-vendor coordination.
• CCIE or strong CCNP-level expertise; strong communication and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Test and certify network hardware, software releases, patches, SMUs, and code upgrades.
• Perform functional, performance, interoperability, and reliability testing in network lab environments.
• Rapidly evaluate and certify patches/CVEs and assess risks.
• Design and execute testing strategies for routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and document hardware, software, performance, and compatibility issues.
• Develop test automation using Python, Ansible, APIs, IaC, and Robot Framework.
• Create and maintain engineering standards, templates, testing guidelines, and documentation.
• Collaborate with vendors and internal teams on PoCs, evaluations, certifications, and new tech.
• Present testing results, risks, and findings to technical and senior management.
• Support production teams with expert-level troubleshooting and vulnerability analysis.
• Evaluate emerging networking technologies and improve testing/certification processes.
