Job summary

Athletics is seeking a Senior Network & Systems Engineer to design, implement, secure, and support our enterprise network, data centers, and stadium technology. You will lead initiatives across LAN/WAN, cloud, and security, partnering with IT and stadium operations to ensure reliability and performance.

The role requires 7+ years in enterprise networking and systems engineering, strong Cisco and virtualization experience, and the ability to work non-traditional schedules for events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in IT, CS, engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive enterprise network and systems engineering experience.
  • Strong Cisco networking expertise; Aruba/Juniper/Palo Alto/Fortinet experience preferred.
  • Experience with VMware/Hyper-V virtualization and Windows/Linux administration.
  • Cloud experience with Azure and AWS; security-focused infrastructure knowledge.
  • Scripting skills (PowerShell, Python) and ability to automate tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, manage, and optimize enterprise LAN, WAN, Wi‑Fi, and data center networks.
  • Administer routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, SD-WAN, and NAC solutions.
  • Lead network architecture planning for stadium operations and enterprise facilities.
  • Monitor performance, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement improvements.
  • Ensure high availability and redundancy for mission‑critical systems.
  • Manage Windows and Linux servers, virtualization, and storage.
  • Administer AD/Azure AD, DNS, DHCP, GPO, and identity solutions.
  • Oversee backup, DR, and business continuity planning.
  • Implement cloud infrastructure in Azure and/or AWS; enforce security best practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and partners to maintain security standards.
  • Participate in incident response, audits, and security investigations.
  • Lead infrastructure projects from planning through deployment and support.
  • Develop standards, diagrams, and operating procedures; maintain asset inventories.

Description

Senior Engineer, Network & Systems is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, security, and support of the organization's enterprise network and server infrastructure. This role serves as a technical leader, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of critical systems supporting business operations, stadium technology, broadcasting, guest services, and corporate functions. The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in networking, systems administration, cybersecurity, cloud technologies, and infrastructure architecture.

This role will work closely with various business units to assist with new initiatives and projects. In this role, you are expected to implement technology best practices while also emphasizing a continuous improvement mindset.

Responsibilities
  • Design, deploy, manage, and optimize enterprise LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, and data center networks.
  • Administer core network technologies including routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, SD-WAN, and network access control solutions.
  • Lead network architecture planning for stadium operations, corporate offices, and event-based environments.
  • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement proactive improvements.
  • Ensure high availability and redundancy for mission-critical systems.
  • Manage Windows and Linux server environments, virtualization platforms, and storage systems.
  • Administer Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and identity management solutions.
  • Maintain server, application, and database infrastructure supporting business and operational systems.
  • Oversee backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
  • Implement and manage cloud infrastructure in Microsoft Azure and/or AWS environments.
  • Implement security best practices across network and server environments.
  • Manage endpoint protection, vulnerability remediation, patch management, and security monitoring.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to maintain compliance with organizational and industry security standards.
  • Participate in incident response, forensic investigations, and security audits.
  • Lead infrastructure projects from planning through deployment and operational support.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and make recommendations aligned with organizational goals.
  • Coordinate with vendors, consultants, contractors, and technology partners.
  • Develop technical standards, documentation, diagrams, and operating procedures.
  • Participate in on-call support rotations and provide event-day technical support when required.
  • Maintain accurate asset inventories and lifecycle management plans.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in enterprise network and systems engineering.
  • Enterprise networking expertise with Cisco (experience with Aruba, Juniper, Palo Alto, Fortinet, or similar platforms also preferred); industry certifications such as CCNP, Palo Alto PCNSE, Fortinet NSE, VMware VCP, Microsoft Azure Administrator, or AWS Solutions Architect preferred.
  • Strong experience with VMware, Hyper-V, or comparable virtualization technologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows Server and Linux administration.
  • Experience with Azure, AWS, or hybrid cloud environments.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and infrastructure hardening.
  • Experience with scripting and automation using PowerShell, Python, or similar tools.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Willing and able to work a non-traditional schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required to support events and critical business operations.
  • Willingness to travel as needed, including to conferences, conventions, Spring Training in Arizona, and Athletics game operations in West Sacramento during the 2026 and 2027 seasons.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the Las Vegas area as needed to support business operations across multiple locations.
  • Willing and able to lift and install network and server equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Willing and able to work in data centers, telecommunications rooms, and stadium operational environments.
  • Experience supporting sports, entertainment, hospitality, venue, or large public-facing environments preferred.
  • Familiarity with broadcast, IPTV, digital signage, AV-over-IP, or stadium technology systems preferred.
  • Experience with large-scale wireless deployments and high-density network environments preferred.
