Job summary

The Network Specialist V role at Health & Human Services Commission in Austin focuses on senior-level design, deployment, and maintenance of complex LAN/WAN networks, including routers, switches, and security devices.

Working under minimal supervision, you will analyze current infrastructure, plan studies, and lead critical network improvements while ensuring disaster recovery and uptime for Texas state services.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in computer science, computer information systems, MIS, or a related field.
• Five (5) years of experience in network management and systems administration, including three (3) years supervisory or lead worker experience.
• Experience with LAN/WAN environments, routers, switches, firewalls, network topologies, and disaster recovery.
• Cisco Network switches/routers configuration experience; familiar with security and change management practices.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots multiple types of connections including WAN and LAN Fiber and Copper (5%).
• Monitors overall network health and identifies areas for improvement and optimization (10%).
• Manages network installation in new projects (5%).
• Performs advanced (senior-level) network systems work (20%).
• Oversees studies on system usage and determines requirements (5%).
• Reviews network plans for completeness and schedules implementations (5%).
• Analyzes procedures for efficiency and effectiveness (5%).
• Responds to outages and handles service requests (15%).
• Provides guidance to business units on new technology solutions (10%).
• Performs related work and addresses complex network problems (10%).
