Job summary

Ascension is seeking a senior network security engineer to drive security improvements and own core platforms in a large-scale environment. This remote role falls within Core Tech Network, with a focus on policy optimization, segmentation, and automation.

You will serve as the escalation point for complex security and NAC issues, lead root-cause analysis, and coordinate incident response across Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ISE, and Aruba ClearPass.

Qualifications

• 8–10+ years of enterprise network/security engineering experience.
• Proven expertise troubleshooting complex, multi-layered issues in large-scale environments.
• Experience with Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ISE/Aruba ClearPass.
• Preferred certifications: PCNSE, Fortinet NSE (4+), CISSP, and vendor credentials.

Responsibilities

• Drive continuous improvement of security environment through policy optimization, segmentation, automation, and ops enhancements.
• Serve as senior escalation point for complex security, firewall, and NAC issues; lead root-cause analysis and incident response.
• Own and optimize core network security platforms to ensure availability, performance, and protection of critical systems.
• Demonstrate deep proficiency with Palo Alto, Fortinet, and Cisco ISE/Aruba ClearPass including 802.1X and VPNs.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Drive continuous improvement of the security environment through policy optimization, segmentation initiatives, automation, and operational enhancements across Palo Alto, Fortinet, and NAC platforms.
• Serve as the senior technical escalation point for complex security, firewall, and network access control issues, leading root-cause analysis, incident response, and problem resolution efforts.
• Own and optimize the organization's core network security platforms, ensuring the availability, performance, and protection of critical systems across a large-scale enterprise environment.
• Deep technical proficiency in Palo Alto firewalls, Fortinet platforms, and Cisco ISE/Aruba ClearPass, covering firewall operations, policy segmentation, 802.1X/RADIUS/TACACS+, and IPSec/SSL VPNs.

What minimum requirements you’ll need

Education:

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree with 1 year of experience OR 5 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required. 2 years of leadership or management experience preferred.

Additional Preferences:

• 8â10+ years of enterprise network/security engineering experience, with proven expertise troubleshooting complex, multi-layered issues under pressure in large-scale environments.
• Preferred certifications: Palo Alto PCNSE, Fortinet NSE (4 or higher), CISSP, and security-focused credentials from Cisco or Aruba.
