Job summary

The City of Columbia, SC IT Department seeks a Network Operations Manager to oversee daily network operations, security, and performance across municipal data centers, firewalls, routers, and wireless networks.

You will lead a team of network professionals, collaborate with government agencies, and implement strategy to ensure reliable connectivity and regulatory compliance. The role includes budget planning and on-call support for critical systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, network engineering or closely related field.
• Six years of relevant prior experience.
• Strong knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, VPNs).
• Hands-on experience with major networking hardware (Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, Palo Alto).
• Experience leading a team of network professionals and managing projects.

Responsibilities

• Oversee operation, maintenance, and optimization of network infrastructure including data centers, firewalls, routers, and wireless networks.
• Lead network infrastructure projects within scope, timeline, and budget.
• Develop business continuity plans with proper failover and disaster recovery strategies.
• Enforce network policies and security measures; ensure compliance with regulations.
• Supervise and mentor a team of network professionals and conduct performance reviews.
• Provide after-hours support for mission-critical operations including public safety systems.
