Route36 is seeking Senior Network Infrastructure Engineers to support Meta's BBE-IP organization as it expands its New Product Introduction capabilities. These engineers will execute technical work across the planning, buildout, automation, validation, and deployment of new network infrastructure within Meta's lab environments.
Working under the direction of the Technical Lead and alongside the TPM and cross-functional engineering teams, these engineers will help bring new networking technologies from initial requirements through lab validation and production readiness.
What You'll Do
- Execute NPI technical work involving backbone routers and switches (fixed-form and chassis-based), optical transmission platforms, 400G and 800G ZR/ZR+ optics, network software, and supporting automation and infrastructure tooling.
- Build, cable, configure, and validate network topologies in lab environments under the direction of the Technical Lead, incorporating new hardware into existing and greenfield lab designs.
- Develop and maintain device configurations across platforms from vendors such as Arista, Juniper, Cisco, Nokia, Ciena, and Infinera.
- Write and maintain automation and tooling supporting network provisioning, ZTP, deployment, testing, monitoring, and lab operations.
- Execute technical validation and qualification plans for new router and switch platforms, line cards, optical transponders, amplifiers, optics modules, firmware, and network architectures.
- Support the Technical Lead in identifying technical risks, troubleshooting complex hardware and software issues, and improving deployment readiness.
- Provide technical estimates, dependencies, and risk flags to support program planning and milestone tracking.
- Monitor and maintain the health of lab infrastructure, including rack power, cabling, console access, device inventory, and environmental systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Network Engineering, Lab Operations, Supply Chain, and Infrastructure Engineering.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, cabling diagrams, deployment procedures, and operational runbooks.
- Support NPI lab expansion and new lab buildouts as the BBE-IP organization grows.
- Participate in root cause analysis and continuously improve engineering and lab processes.
What We're Looking For
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of experience in network infrastructure, network engineering, software engineering, or a related highly technical IC role.
- Hands-on experience with backbone-class routers, switches, or optical transmission equipment from vendors such as Arista, Juniper, Cisco, Nokia, Ciena, or Infinera.
- Experience developing software and automation on Linux-based operating systems.
- Experience developing automation and tools for network provisioning, deployment, and operations.
- Familiarity with network device configuration for at least one major vendor platform (EOS, Junos, IOS-XR, SR OS, or equivalent).
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Go, C++, or Java, including hands-on experience adopting AI-assisted coding tools and the ability to rapidly learn new development languages.
- Demonstrated knowledge of TCP, IPv4/6, routing protocols such as BGP, MPLS, or IS-IS, and related network services including DHCP and DNS.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across network hardware, optics, software, automation, and infrastructure.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering organizations.
Preferred
- Experience with 400G or 800G coherent optics (ZR/ZR+, DWDM, optical amplification).
- Experience with New Product Introduction, network hardware qualification, or lab validation in a hyperscale or service provider environment, including IXIA testing.
- Experience with network operations automation within a DevOps environment, including provisioning/ZTP, deployment, monitoring, remediation, and software push systems.
- Experience with chassis-based platforms including line card and fabric qualification.
- Experience with network automation, CI/CD tooling, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Experience with lab infrastructure management including rack-and-stack, structured cabling, and console server administration.
- Experience collaborating with hardware vendors, service providers, and field installation teams.
Success in this Role
Success will be measured by reliable execution of NPI technical work from planning through validation, consistent lab health and availability, effective use of automation to reduce manual effort, accurate estimates and proactive identification of risks, and strong collaboration with the Technical Lead, TPM, and partner engineering teams.
