Position Summary

GEICO is seeking an experienced Engineer passionate about building high-performance, low-maintenance, zero-downtime platforms and applications. You will help drive our insurance business transformation, transitioning from a traditional IT model to a tech organization focused on engineering excellence, fostering a culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement.

Position Description

Our Senior Engineer is a key member of the engineering team responsible for innovating, building new systems, improving existing ones, and identifying new opportunities to apply technical knowledge to solve critical problems. You will lead the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap to increase product delivery velocity and unlock new engineering capabilities. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining network infrastructure.

Position Responsibilities

1. Implement, support, and maintain network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless networks, VPN, and SD-WAN.
2. Implement network policies and security measures to protect against cyber threats and ensure compliance with industry standards.
3. Design, deploy, and support SD-WAN solutions, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability.
4. Implement and maintain wired and wireless security measures.
5. Configure and optimize wireless coverage, signal strength, and interference levels.
6. Configure and maintain SD-WAN edge devices, gateways, and controllers for dynamic traffic routing, QoS, and security policies.
7. Collaborate with stakeholders and team members to solve complex problems.
8. Monitor network performance and proactively resolve issues to ensure maximum uptime.
9. Share best practices and improve processes within and across teams.
10. Determine resource requirements, evaluate operational processes, measure outcomes, demonstrate adaptability, and promote continuous learning.
11. Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support and maintenance activities.
12. Design, implement, manage, and troubleshoot DNS, DHCP, IPAM, and NTP in a large enterprise environment.
13. Create and re-engineer processes, workflows, scripts, and automation to improve quality and efficiency.
14. Understand and promote network standards, reference architectures, and develop strategic roadmaps for network platforms and services.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting SD-WAN solutions.
• Strong understanding of WAN technologies, including MPLS, VPN, and internet circuits.
• Knowledge of network security principles, firewalls, VPN, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
• Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting VPN technologies.
• Strong understanding of wireless protocols and standards.
• Expertise in network routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF.
• Experience with Core, Distribution, Access, VPN, Firewalls, and Wireless.
• Programming experience with at least one language like GO, Java, C++, Python, or C#, including object-oriented design.
• Experience with vendors like Cisco, Aruba, Zscaler, and Palo Alto.
• Hands-on experience managing DNS, DHCP, IPAM, and NTP in large enterprise environments with DDI platforms like Infoblox, BlueCat, MS DNS, or similar.
• Understanding of Cloud Service models: PaaS, IaaS, SaaS.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and in teams.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.
• Active certifications such as CCNP or willingness to pursue within 12 months are highly desired.

Experience

• 4+ years in Network Engineering or operations.
• 3+ years in architecture and design.
• 3+ years with AWS, GCP, Azure, or other cloud services.
• 2+ years in open-source frameworks.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
