Job summary

University of Pennsylvania is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to plan, design, and manage a complex multi-vendor enterprise network across campus, data center, and WAN. You will drive automation, standardization, and validation of network solutions using Python and industry tools.

The role requires expert knowledge of IPv4/IPv6, BGP/OSPF, MPLS/VXLAN, and Cisco/Juniper equipment, with strong collaboration across teams and partners.

Qualifications

• BS and 3–5 years of experience or equivalent.
• Expert IPv4/IPv6 routing knowledge.
• Expert in BGP/OSPF and overlay technologies MPLS/VXLAN.
• Experience with Linux and Python scripting.
• Familiarity with Nautobot/NetBox and network management tools.
• Experience with Cisco/Juniper enterprise gear.

Responsibilities

• Plan, design, install, and manage complex multi-vendor enterprise networks.
• Maintain network performance through monitoring, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.
• Design and support Cisco/Catalyst, Nexus, and Juniper routing/switching across campus, data center, and WAN.
• Define standards and best practices for routing, switching, automation, and monitoring.
• Engineer IPv4/IPv6 routing using BGP, OSPF, IS-IS.
• Plan and maintain MPLS/VXLAN overlays for multi-tenant services.
• Build Python-based automation for deployment, configuration, and workflows.
• Collaborate with campus partners, internal teams, and external providers.
• Provide daily network administration, changes, and improvements.
• Lead technical discussions and mentor staff; participate in after-hours on-call rotation.
