Job summary

The Senior Network Engineer position at the district is responsible for delivering comprehensive consultative support for WAN and LAN networks. Acts as the primary resource for technical, design, operational, and security issues across district networks and provides guidance to Information Systems administration.

Responsibilities include installation and management of LAN/WAN, firewalls, switches, routers, troubleshooting, VPNs, and maintaining network tools.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years experience with LAN/WAN/WLAN including TCP/IP, VOIP and wiring.
  • Three years firewall and internet filter experience required.
  • Certification in CCNA or equivalent; CCNP/CCIE desired.
  • Valid Colorado driver's license and insurability.
  • Demonstrated communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Install and manage local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN) daily.
  • Install, configure, and maintain firewalls, switches, and routers.
  • Analyze and resolve utilization, security, and performance issues.
  • Manage network installation projects and coordinate with departments.
  • Test and maintain district VPNs and site-to-site connections.
  • Test and maintain network management tools.
  • Establish district-wide networking concepts and standards.
  • Evaluate new networking solutions for standards compliance.
  • Monitor network usage and propose enhancements.
  • Perform forensic security investigations as required.
  • Attend district construction meetings and provide design input.
  • Test, install, configure, and maintain district UPS.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY

Deliver comprehensive consultative technical service/support and training related to all of the district’s wide area networks (WAN) and local area networks (LAN) networks. Serves as the primary district resource for all technical, design, operational, and security issues relating to district networks. Provides technical guidance and advice to Information Systems administration. Provides direct Support to the network operation team, building technology specialists, and other Information Systems personnel. Assist all district WAN and LAN users as needed.

JOB TASK DESCRIPTIONS
  • 1. Install and manage local and wide area networks. (LAN, WLAN and WAN) Daily 20%
  • 2. Install, configure, and maintain firewalls, switches, and routers for the district's WAN. Daily 15%
  • 3. Analyze and resolve problems with regard to utilization, security, and performance of district networks. Daily 15%

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum prerequisites of formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other criteria that a candidate must fulfill to be considered for a position. It is essential that certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, and trainings are fulfilled, valid, and not expired.

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience with all aspects of LANs, WLANs and WANs including TCP/IP, VOIP, and wiring, with three (3) of those years working with firewalls and internet filters.
  • CCNA in Routing and Switching, Network+ certification, or another network coursework.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • Must meet insurability requirements of the Colorado School District Self Insurance Pool.
  • Advanced knowledge of computers and cell phones.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to be adaptive to changing needs.
  • Frequent intra-district travel
  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other qualifications relevant to the position that are strongly preferred but not mandatory for a candidate to be considered.

  • CCNP or CCIE in Routing and Switching.
  • Strong understanding with Optical network transport technology (CWDM/DWDM/Ethernet)
  • Deep understanding of Data center networking (cabling, configuration, segmentation, security)
  • Tier1 through engineering level troubleshooting
  • Deep understanding of routing protocols (BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, PIM)
  • Deep understanding of switching protocols (spanning-tree, VLAN, Q-in-Q, COS)
  • Test, implement, configure, and maintain point to point wireless links
  • Experience working with Tier1 and last mile service providers
  • Experience working in the public sector
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
