Job summary

University of Maryland's Division of Information Technology seeks a Senior IT Network Engineer to plan, design, and implement advanced wired and wireless networks. You will manage lifecycle support for routers, switches, VPNs, firewalls, load balancers, and VoIP, while ensuring up-to-date runbooks and design docs.

You will present complex designs to mixed audiences and mentor IT colleagues. Flexibility for after-hours on-call support is expected in this essential role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Four (4) years of professional experience supporting IT infrastructure operations, maintenance, and administration.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to lead presentations with small to medium groups.
• Able to organize and provide direction to junior staff members.
• Demonstrated customer service orientation.
• Ability to manage workload and deliver assignments on time.
• Proficiency with Office 365 or Google Workspace.

Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and implement wired and wireless network infrastructure improvements and new capabilities.
• Design, develop, and support wired and wireless network infrastructure, including routers, switches, VPNs, firewalls, and load balancers.
• Ensure network documentation is up-to-date (design docs, runbooks, diagrams).
• Present and communicate technical designs to mixed audiences; mentor colleagues as needed.
• Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support when required.
