Senior Engineer - Network Services

Position Summary

GEICO is seeking an experienced Engineer passionate about building high-performance, low-maintenance, zero-downtime platforms and applications. You will help drive our insurance business transformation, transitioning from a traditional IT model to a tech organization focused on engineering excellence, while fostering a culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement.

Position Description

The Senior Engineer is a key member of the engineering team, working across the organization to proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability, stability, scalability, and performance. Our team succeeds in delivering high-quality technology products and services in a hyper-growth environment where priorities shift quickly. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining network infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily support and perform maintenance for security infrastructure components such as Web Security Gateways (Zscaler, CISCO WSA), Network Access Control systems (ISE), IDS/IPS, WAF, and firewalls.
  • Design and maintain DNS, DHCP, NTP, and IP Address Management frameworks for operational efficiency.
  • Document network-related processes, runbooks, and design references.
  • Conduct risk and impact assessments; troubleshoot issues and manage changes effectively.
  • Support and maintain large-scale, critical network environments and services.
  • Perform root cause analysis for network issues.
  • Develop and improve processes, workflows, scripts, and automation to enhance quality and efficiency.
  • Provide 24x7 on-call support and assist with off-hour implementations.
  • Utilize enterprise network management platforms for efficient large-scale deployments.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience managing DNS, DHCP, IPAM, and NTP in large enterprise environments, with DDI platforms like Infoblox, BlueCat, MS DNS, or similar.
  • Experience supporting firewalls such as Palo Alto Networks.
  • Experience with Web Security Gateways (Zscaler, CISCO WSA), ISE, and WAF.
  • Understanding of security and audit compliance regulations (SOX, PCI, etc.).
  • Proficiency in scripting languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Ability to create network topology maps and document processes and standards.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining technical issues to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to operate effectively in dynamic, high-pressure environments.
  • Strong ownership, responsibility, motivation, and a drive for continuous improvement.
  • Passion for technology, systems engineering, and delivering quality solutions.
  • Knowledge of network architectures and protocols is desirable.
  • Understanding of network security principles is desirable.
  • Familiarity with network infrastructure components like switches, routers, and firewalls is desirable.
  • Ability to perform advanced packet/protocol analysis is desirable.
  • Experience with network performance, capacity, configuration, and fault management is desirable.
  • Experience with public cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure) is desirable.
  • Active certifications such as Cisco CCNP are highly desired, or willingness to pursue within 12 months.

Experience

  • Minimum 4 years in large-scale network environment management and troubleshooting.
  • At least 3 years in architecture and design.
  • 3+ years with cloud services like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • 2+ years in open-source frameworks.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.

Annual Salary

$100,000.00 - $215,000.00

The salary range is a general guideline, with final offers based on experience, education, responsibilities, location, and market considerations. GEICO considers sponsoring qualified applicants for employment authorization.
