Job summary

Five Stones Research Corporation (5SRC) in Huntsville seeks a senior Network Specialist IV to deliver master-level network engineering across enterprise and regional scopes. The role supports Europe or Pacific regional leads and requires strong ZTA, protocol troubleshooting, and LAN/WAN expertise.

This position is contingent on contract award and DoD clearance. The ideal candidate has Windows and Cisco experience plus SolarWinds proficiency and DoD 8140 compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline with five years of related experience, or equivalent certification/experience
• Expertise in Windows networks, Cisco Systems, and Orion SolarWinds; ZTA experience
• Mastery of standard networking protocols and technologies (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, etc.) and LAN/WAN concepts

Responsibilities

• Provide master-level network engineering support across routed, switched, and shared LAN/WAN environments
• Serve as regional (Europe/Pacific) or enterprise-level senior escalation resource
• Apply deep expertise in cable testing, protocol troubleshooting, and ZTA
• Maintain compliance with DoD/Cyber workforce standards and DoD 8140 guidelines

Summary/Objective

Five Stones Research Corporation (5SRC) is seeking energetic candidates to join our established and growing Huntsville-headquartered team. Network Specialist IV provides the most senior tier of technical network engineering support, holding mastery-level expertise across enterprise network technologies, structured as remote Enterprise, Europe Regional, or Pacific Regional lead roles. THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON CONTRACT AWARD.

Essential Functions

• Provides mastery-level network engineering support across routed, switched, and shared LAN/WAN environments.
• Serves as a regional (Europe, Pacific) or enterprise-level senior technical escalation resource.
• Applies deep expertise in cable testing, protocol troubleshooting, and Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA).
• Supports escalations beyond the scope of Network Specialist I–III personnel.

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (g., Computer Sciences) with five (5) years’ of related experience
  • Alternative: Successful completion of a certified technical/vocational school with ten (10) years’ of related experience
• Expertise in Windows networks, Cisco Systems, and Orion SolarWinds with experience in ZTA and Methodologies.
• Mastery of standard networking protocols and technologies, including TCP/IP, HTTP, HTTPS, SNMP, DNS, DHCP, RSTP, VRRP, BIND, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, and communication/internet standards 802.1d, 802.1q, 802.1w, 802.3, 802.11, 802.3u, and 802.3z.
• Direct experience with synchronous/asynchronous communications, Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, and other communications media used by the DoW and DHA.
• Experience with OTDR, cable testers, network sniffers, and EIA/TIA cable standards and specifications.
• Mastery of routed, switched, and shared LAN environments operating current supported versions of Microsoft OS, Windows Active Directory, UNIX, and OpenVMS, and employing routers, switches, and terminal servers, as well as local and long-haul WAN connectivity.
• Must have and maintain a certification compliant with the Network Operations Specialist "Advanced" proficiency level, work role 441, per the current DoD 8140 Cyber Workforce Qualification Matrix.
• Compliance with DoDD 8140.01, DoDI 8140.02, and DoDM 8140.03.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong oral and written communications skills to effectively present information to a broad audience of Government officials, medical professionals, and highly specialized technical personnel.
• Prior experience supporting OCONUS network operations in Europe or the Pacific region.
