Job summary

Verdun Oil Company in Houston, TX is seeking an experienced network administrator to define and implement our enterprise network strategy. The role requires hands-on administration, support, and deep troubleshooting of Cisco, Palo Alto, VPN, and SD-WAN technologies to meet business needs securely and cost-effectively.

You will travel 10-20% within Texas, support MS Teams calling and MS Azure networking, and design networks for field, office, and datacenter environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in IT, CS, or related field preferred.
• Minimum 5 years in a systems administrative role.
• 5+ years in enterprise systems.
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, switching, and security.
• Willingness to travel 10-20% in Texas.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot IT equipment and software 24/7, including Cisco devices and firewalls.
• Maintain MS Teams calling and MS Azure networking.
• Provide field/SCADA network support and datacenter network support.
• Design, implement, and optimize network circuits and security.

Description:

This position is responsible for defining and implementing network strategy to support business needs securely and cost-effectively, as well as the ability to perform administration, support, and in-depth troubleshooting of related technologies as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To be successful, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily; other duties may be assigned.

• Responsible for daily (24/7) troubleshooting of IT equipment and software, including Cisco routers and switches, firewalls, VPN, BGP and EIGRP routing protocols, Cisco Wireless controllers and Access Points, Cisco ISE, Palo Alto firewalls, VPN (Global Protect), Panorama, and SolarWinds.
• Responsible for maintaining MS Teams calling and MS Azure networking.
• Responsible for support with Integration for field/SCADA communications, field and office network support, and Datacenter (Colo) network support.
• Responsible for overall network security.
• Responsible for network and circuit design, optimization & management.
• The position will require 10-20% travel time within Texas.
• The position will require after-hours support outside normal work hours.
• All other duties and responsibilities assigned by management.

Qualifications & Skills

Education/Experience

• A bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a systems administrative role and at least 5 years of experience in business enterprise systems.

Other Skills

• Strong understanding of computer network infrastructure.
• Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices.
• Knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols.
• Ability to create network diagrams and documentation for designing and planning network communication systems.
• Ability to quickly learn technologies and products using documentation and internet resources.
• Experience with local area network and wide area network administration.
• Experience with the concept and implementation of SD-WAN

Computer Skills

• Full knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and Azure.

Certificates and Licenses

• Preferred but not required: CompTIA Network+, CCNA, CCNP, Azure Network Engineer Associate.
