Job summary

The Chronicle of Higher Education, Inc. is seeking a senior network engineer to design, maintain, and support the campus-wide network and related systems at York College.

You will collaborate with LTS staff to build secure, reliable wired and wireless networks, including firewalls and VPNs, and provide first-line emergency support for academic and administrative operations. You will lead troubleshooting, perform system administration, and guide student workers while ensuring a highly available

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Six years in networking/telecom support for wired/wireless networks.
  • Six years with mobile devices/OSs: Unix/Linux, Windows, macOS.
  • Six years administering network access control systems.
  • Four years administering firewalls and VPNs.
  • Four years with dedicated network devices and Internet appliances.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with LTS staff to identify and address campus network problems (20%).
  • Provide advanced support and design of the network access control system (10%).
  • Architect, configure, monitor, and maintain wired and wireless networks, including firewalls (30%).
  • Perform network equipment inventory, support, administration and upgrades (15%).
  • Design and maintain routing protocols on core switches and Internet routers (10%).
  • Perform system administration and account management on network support servers (10%).
  • Manage network student workers (5%).

Position Summary

DESCRIPTION : Responsible for design, maintenance, and advanced support of theYork College campus wide network and its related systems includingall telecommunications. This role proactively collaborates withother LTS staff to design and monitor and wired and wirelessnetworks and their components including firewalls and accesscontrol. The position also provides technical leadership, firstpoint of emergency support, and ensures a highly reliable andsecure network infrastructure that supports both academic andadministrative operations.

Essential Functions
  • Collaborate with LTS staff members to identify and addressproblems relating to the campus network 20%
  • Provide advanced support and design of the network accesscontrol system 10%
  • Architect, configure, monitor, and maintain the wired andwireless network system, including firewalls 30%
  • Perform network equipment infrastructure inventory, support,administration and upgrades 15%
  • Design and maintain routing protocols on core switches andInternet routers 10%

Experience and Education Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (i.e., Computer Science,Engineering, MIS) or equivalent experience required
  • At least six years of experience supporting networking andtelecommunications infrastructures including wired and wirelessnetworks
  • At least six years of experience with mobile devices andoperating systems, including Unix/Linux, Windows and macOS
  • At least six years of experience administeringnetwork accesscontrol systems
  • At least four years of experience administering firewalls andVPNs
  • At least four years of experience with dedicated networkdevices such as gaming systems and other Internet appliances
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Knowledge of operating systems, network/connectivityprinciples, file server technologies and computing environmentsincluding telecommunications systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose complex networkproblems
  • Strong understanding of security principles as they apply todeploying and maintaining business-critical networkinfrastructure
  • Strong understanding of campus network architecture anddesign
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
