Job Type: Part-Time Contract, approximately 2 business days per week

Description

MGT Impact Solutions is seeking a qualified candidate to be a Senior Network Engineer for their client.

Successful candidates will be MGT employees contracted to MGT's client.

The Senior Network Engineer role will provide senior-level network engineering capacity on an approximately two-business-days-per-week basis, with additional support for planned maintenance, outages, projects, and other activities as required. The engagement may be delivered through a named individual or a vendor-managed service team, with one accountable primary technical contact and an identified backup.

The Senior Network Engineer will provide experienced support to operate, maintain, secure, troubleshoot, document, and improve CDTA's enterprise network environment. The role requires clear ownership, responsive support, continuity of knowledge, and effective coordination with CDTA staff, telecommunications carriers, vendors, and other technical stakeholders.

Primary Duties
  • Monitor network health, availability, capacity, performance, circuit status, and device conditions; investigate alerts and recurring issues.
  • Assess the existing network environment and identify vulnerabilities, lifecycle risks, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve LAN, WAN, wireless, VPN, remote access services, and related connectivity.
  • Support firewall administration, secure network configuration, segmentation, access controls, threat protection, logging, and security requirements.
  • Plan, test, document, and execute firmware, software, configuration, and security updates, including disruptive maintenance during approved off-hours windows.
  • Serve as a senior escalation point for complex network, infrastructure, connectivity, performance, and security issues.
  • Coordinate with carriers, technology vendors, and CDTA staff through issue investigation and resolution.
  • Provide technical planning and implementation support for network refreshes, migrations, new facilities, service transitions, hardware deployments, and related technology projects.
  • Support network backup, recovery, redundancy, failover, continuity, and disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Develop or maintain scripts, templates, configuration standards, and repeatable procedures that improve reliability and reduce manual effort.
  • Maintain current network diagrams, inventories, configurations, procedures, change records, support notes, issue history, and recommendations.
  • Provide practical technical guidance to IT staff, management, and project stakeholders and assist other technical personnel as needed.
Essential Functions
  • Operate and maintain enterprise network infrastructure with a focus on availability, performance, security, and service continuity.
  • Troubleshoot complex routing, switching, wireless, WAN, VPN, firewall, connectivity, and network performance issues and determine root causes.
  • Plan and execute production maintenance, patching, upgrades, migrations, testing, and cutovers using appropriate validation and rollback planning.
  • Identify network security and lifecycle risks and implement or recommend practical remediation and improvement measures.
  • Coordinate planned outages, maintenance windows, change-control activities, vendor support, and on-site work when remote performance is impractical.
  • Support network segmentation, security hardening, vulnerability remediation, monitoring, logging, and related security controls.
  • Support network resilience, redundancy, failover, disaster recovery, and continuity requirements.
  • Develop repeatable configurations, templates, scripts, and procedures that improve consistency and reduce manual effort.
  • Maintain comprehensive technical and configuration documentation so CDTA does not need to repeatedly explain its network, history, open issues, or prior decisions.
  • Provide leadership with clear visibility into active work, risks, issues, recommendations, decisions, and next steps.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Education Required
  • Demonstrated senior-level experience designing, supporting, securing, and troubleshooting enterprise networks.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with routing, switching, firewalls, wireless, WAN connectivity, VPN, network monitoring, and related protocols and services.
  • Experience planning and performing production maintenance, patching, upgrades, migrations, and complex troubleshooting with appropriate testing and rollback planning.
  • Ability to analyze technical results, identify risks and root causes, and present practical recommendations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with disciplined documentation and the ability to work effectively with technical staff, management, carriers, and vendors.
  • Ability to work independently, protect confidential information, and comply with CDTA security and access requirements.
  • Ability to travel to CDTA locations and perform on‑site work when requested.
  • Relevant professional certifications in networking, security, firewall, wireless, or related technologies are preferred.
Position Requirements
  • Significant senior-level experience supporting enterprise network infrastructure and complex production environments.
  • Experience with LAN, WAN, wireless, VPN, firewalls, routing, switching, monitoring, network security, and related technologies.
  • Experience coordinating maintenance, upgrades, migrations, outages, cutovers, and other production‑impacting changes.
  • Experience coordinating with telecommunications carriers, network vendors, and third‑party technical resources.
  • Experience with network segmentation, security hardening, vulnerability remediation, disaster recovery, automation, and infrastructure lifecycle planning is strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting multi‑site, operationally critical, public‑sector, transportation, or similarly distributed environments is preferred.
  • Ability to provide remote support and work on‑site at CDTA facilities when required by the task, outage, project, equipment, facility, or security requirement.
  • Availability for approved off‑hours maintenance, updates, patching, cutovers, testing, and other activities that could affect production service.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Hourly Wage and Selection Process
