Job summary

The City of Irvine seeks an experienced Network & Communications Engineer to join a fast-paced, diverse team responsible for critical citywide network infrastructure. You will design and deploy complex networks, ensuring high availability, security, and regulatory compliance.

You will mentor junior staff, lead projects, and participate in on-call rotations to support city sites during non-business hours. Strong collaboration with vendors and internal teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS or closely related field with five years of IT experience.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS and security best practices.
• Experience designing and implementing complex network architectures for high availability.
• Familiar with CLETS and CJIS compliance requirements.
• Experience with SD-WAN and a strong ability to mentor junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design and architect complex network solutions based on business requirements.
• Lead deployment of routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, WAPs, and VPNs.
• Configure and maintain network components for high availability and performance.
• Monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize bandwidth utilization.
• Provide SME guidance and mentor junior engineers on advanced troubleshooting.
• Create network diagrams, configurations, and operational procedures.
