Job summary

The New York City Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is a public benefit corporation and the nation’s largest municipal Housing Finance Agency. The Senior Application Developer is a hands-on technical leader responsible for designing and developing enterprise software solutions while helping establish engineering best practices across the Applications Development team.

This role will modernize HDC's custom application portfolio, mentor developers, and support adoption of modern development

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong experience developing enterprise applications using C# and .NET.
• Experience designing and consuming REST APIs.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming principles and software design patterns.
• Experience with Git or other distributed source control systems.
• Experience writing complex SQL queries and working with relational databases.
• Experience troubleshooting and supporting enterprise applications.
• Working knowledge of front-end technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across technical and business teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, document, test, and implement secure, scalable, and maintainable enterprise software solutions.
• Lead the modernization and enhancement of existing .NET applications.
• Participate in application architecture and technical design discussions.
• Develop RESTful APIs and reusable application components.
• Establish and promote software engineering best practices, coding standards, and design patterns.
• Perform code reviews and mentor developers to improve overall code quality and technical capability.
• Help implement and improve source control, branching strategies, CI/CD pipelines, and SDLC practices.
• Evaluate and leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity and software quality.
• Collaborate with project managers, business stakeholders, and IT leadership to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Troubleshoot complex application issues and provide technical leadership during production support activities.
• Contribute to technical documentation, architectural standards, and development guidelines.
• Develop solutions and integrations involving enterprise platforms such as Dynamics 365, Power Platform, SharePoint, and other business applications as needed.
