Job summary

The University of Texas at Arlington seeks a detail-oriented professional to review and process information submitted to state regulators. You will audit documents related to groundwater, chemical, surface water and public notice rules, and support the department's efficiency improvements.

Hybrid work arrangement may be available, and a comprehensive benefits package is provided. Responsibilities include responding to inquiries from city and county officials, engineers, lawyers, and the public;

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 2 years of related experience, or 6 years in lieu.

Job description

Purpose of Position

Reviews and processes information, audits, documentation, and data submitted by Public Water Systems (PWSs) to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) related to the Ground Water Revised Total Coliform, Chemical, Surface Water and Public Notice rules. Contributes to the development and improvement of processes to enhance the overall efficiency of the department.

Essential Functions

• Performs routine reviews of PWS information, applications, documentation, and data submitted by PWSs and laboratories to TCEQ and stored in TCEQ databases; researches regulated entity information and determines compliance with rules, regulations, policies and guidelines.
• Initiates and responds to communications and inquiries; provides assistance and technical information about natural resource and environmental rules and regulations or emerging issues to city and county officials; businesses; water system owners, operators, engineers, and lawyers; agency staff; other governmental entities and the general public.
• Inputs information into institutional databases; documents research and compliance determinations; follows established protocol for records management.
• Prepares correspondence, reports, standard operating procedures, and other documents; tracks and reports on status of assignments; provides guidance to junior staff, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and efficiently.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., natural science, engineering, environmental studies) from an accredited institution and two (2) years of related experience (e.g., data analysis, environmental quality management, public utilities, business administration or related field); or six years of an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills; experience with databases and reviewing technical documents; paralegal experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Teams, Word, and Excel; and PC's.
• Solid working knowledge of database entry
• Ability to learn TCEQ's 30 Texas Administrative Code (TAC) Chapter 290 rules and Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS) and the Consolidated Compliance and Enforcement Data System (CCEDS) and Central Registry databases
• Knowledge of applicable institutional standard operating procedures; and adheres to institutional paper and electronic file management requirements.
• Skilled in organization, attention to details, communicating technical information to non-technical individuals, and customer service.
• Ability to mentor newer staff as needed throughout the training process.
• Ability to integrate complex concepts, procedures, and processes.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with clients, customers, and coworkers to gather information and/or explain policies and procedures.
• Ability to work under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment; to work independently and effectively in home and remote offices; and to work professionally and cooperatively in a team environment.
• Ability to complete all physical tasks as needed.

Work Schedule

• Monday through Friday; 8:00am through 5:00pm
• Hybrid eligible.
• Infrequent travel (i.e., annually) for activities such as job skills training or participating in institutional and client meetings and conferences.
• Based on funding availability. The position set to continue until the start of fiscal year of 08/31/2027.
