Job summary

Manatal, a national fire alarm contractor, seeks a proven National Fire Alarm Design Manager to lead a 30+ designer team and ensure design quality from concept through construction. The role oversees large, complex systems, enforces NFPA and code compliance, and manages design hours and budgets for profitability.

The ideal candidate will drive process improvements, tools, and team performance. The position is based in Tempe, AZ with potential for hybrid scheduling over time.

Qualifications

• 20+ years of experience in fire alarm design.
• 10+ years designing fire alarm systems of significant size and complexity.
• 5+ years with 3D design software (Revit strongly preferred).
• NICET Level IV in Fire Alarm Systems, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
• Proven leadership and team development of fire alarm designers.
• Strong knowledge of NFPA 72, IBC, IECC, and AHJ review requirements.
• Experience supporting projects through bidding, permitting, construction, and closeout.
• Understanding of design budgets, hours, and cost-effective layouts.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
• Detail oriented with strong organization.

Responsibilities

• Lead a national fire alarm design team of 30+ designers across in-office and remote positions.
• Supervise designer tasks, workloads, and schedules to meet project deadlines.
• Review designer drawings for compliance with NFPA 72, IBC, IECC, and AHJ requirements.
• Monitor design hours and budgets to drive efficiency and profitability.
• Oversee design from concept to completion, ensuring contract, budget, and timeline adherence.
• Perform QA reviews on design documents and permit drawings.
• Provide design direction during bidding, permitting, and construction phases.
• Collaborate with clients, engineers, and inspectors to align with life-safety codes.
