About the Role

We're seeking an experienced MySQL Database Administrator with strong Azure cloud expertise to join our team on a part-time basis. You'll be responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and securing our MySQL database environments in Azure, ensuring high availability and performance for critical business applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform database tuning, query optimization, and index management
• Design, implement, and maintain MySQL databases on Azure (Azure Database for MySQL, MySQL on VMs)
• Monitor database performance using Azure Monitor, Query Store, Performance Schema
• Manage backups, restores, and migrations in Azure environment
• Troubleshoot replication issues (master-slave, GTID, group replication)
• Implement security best practices (encryption, RBAC, Azure Private Link)
• Automate routine tasks using Azure Automation, PowerShell, or Python
• Collaborate with developers on schema design and query optimization

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 5+ years as MySQL DBA in production environments
• Hands-on experience with Azure cloud services:
• Azure Database for MySQL (Flexible Server preferred)
• Azure VM-based MySQL deployments
• Azure Backup, Blob Storage, Networking
• Expertise in:
• Performance tuning (EXPLAIN ANALYZE, slow query log, optimizer hints)
• Replication (source-replica, InnoDB Cluster)
• Security (TDE, auditing, Azure AD integration)
• Strong scripting skills (Bash, PowerShell)
• Experience with monitoring tools (Azure Monitor, Percona PMM, Grafana)
