The Town of Mount Pleasant seeks a Municipal Court Solicitor to prosecute cases, advise the Police Department on criminal law, and represent the Town in appeals arising from Municipal Court proceedings. The role also serves as acting head of the Legal Department for administrative purposes, including budgeting, payroll, and supervision of staff.

Requirements include a JD from an accredited law school, active SC Bar membership, five years of legal experience, and a valid SC driver's license;

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school with bar admission in good standing
• Five years of progressively responsible legal experience
• Active membership in the South Carolina Bar

Responsabilités

• Prosecute criminal and ordinance cases in Municipal Court and handle appeals as needed
• Provide legal advice to Police Department on criminal law and prosecution
• Supervise and manage the Legal Department staff and budgeting
• Prepare witnesses, motions, briefs, and other legal documents
• Negotiate with defense counsel and evaluate case dispositions
• Ensure compliance with laws, court rules, and town policies
